History of K-Wings.... can someone help me with their history?...
After the 1970's all girls teams, the next all girls teams were organized in the mid 1990's. The local team which was formed in 1995, was sponsored by Perkins Electronics; coached by Larry Lankton assisted by Barb Kinnunen-Skidmore.
The Keweenaw Wings team (K-Wings for short) was formed starting in the 1996-97 season as a girls "travel" team 19U?. The K-Wings first coach was Larry Lankton assisted by Barb Kinnunen-Skidmore. They played 47 games with an overall standing of 30-17 for the season. The K-Wings teams were coached by Larry Lankton or Rod Mattila.
After the K-Wings formed, Perkins Electronics continued for a few years as a
"house" league girls team before changing to the Al-Telcom K-Wings.
The Al Telcom teams have been coached by Jack
Dunstan(2000-2001), Scott Blake(2001-2002), and Terry LaJeunesse(2002-2003,
2003-2004).
